Neptune Memorial Reef is a large, artificial reef designed by marine biologists and engineers in such a way as to provide both a stunning artistic structure and a habitat capable of supporting an aquatic ecosystem.
Divers can reserve trips to this magnificent structure through various dive centers, such as the Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center mentioned above.
Neptune Memorial Reef covers 16 acres of the ocean floor, so there is plenty to explore.

Half Moon Shipwreck

The Half Moon yacht went through several hands from its inception to succumbing to the ocean depths.
It was designed in Germany in the early 1900s as a wedding gift.
It was then seized by the British and soon after was abandoned to rot in port before going to auction.
The Half Moon was purchased by a gentleman intending to sail it across the ocean before going bankrupt, when it was then purchased and restored to its former glory.
After operating as a floating saloon, the Half Moon sank to its final resting place.
It now serves as a unique spectacle for scuba divers and is one of the most popular sites for scuba diving in Miami.
The dive to the Half Moon Shipwreck is accessible to scuba divers of all skill levels, as it rests just under the water’s surface.
Army Tanks

Off the coast of Miami Beach, at a depth of around 45', you will find two M60 Army tanks that were placed there in the early summer of 1994.

However, there are some factors to consider before you plan your diving trip.
This section will examine a few things you should consider before going scuba diving in Miami.
Water temperature
The water temperature is not a huge concern when considering scuba diving in Miami, as the temperature stays relatively mild year-round. In the summertime, Miami's waters climb to the 80s.
However, don't let the winter season sway you from scuba diving, as the water surrounding Miami remains comfortable in the low 70s.
If you are unfamiliar with what water temperatures feel like, the low 70s is still very doable; think pool water in the springtime and early summer months.
Plus, the proper wetsuit can retain your body heat much more effectively in lower-temperature waters.
Visibility
When it comes to scuba diving in Miami, or anywhere for that matter, visibility is important to consider because low visibility can turn what would have otherwise been a fascinating scenic underwater journey into a struggle to see your hand in front of your face.
Additionally, if you're like me, you probably don't feel comfortable scuba diving in low-visibility waters, especially if you are a novice diver.
I personally don't like not being able to view my surroundings underwater, and I prefer underwater regions with high visibility so I can take in the sights of the wildlife and vegetation around me.
Fortunately, scuba diving in Miami is excellent for viewing your surroundings underwater, as visibility can exceed 30’ throughout the year.
That said, April through November seems to be the optimal time for scuba diving in Miami for being able to see clearly, as visibility remains around 50’ during these months.
Crowds
If large tourist crowds aren't your thing, then you might consider going scuba diving in Miami outside of its peak months of April through November.
You should never dive by yourself, but that doesn't mean you have to be a part of an enormous group either.
Having too many people on a diving trip could take away from the experience of seeing abundant wildlife and taking in your surroundings.
You can also book private charters through specific dive centers, but remember that this will be much more expensive to compensate for fuel, equipment, and the dive instructor's time.

This is my first point because there are many diving trips where at least the Open Water Diver certification is required.
You can do certain dives to earn credits toward your certification that don't require it to be previously completed, like the Discover Scuba Diving course.
The Discover Scuba Diving course was the first diving class I ever took, and I completed it in Cozumel, Mexico, while on a cruise.
I highly recommend this experience to anyone who has never been scuba diving before because it gives you an hour-long opportunity to get your feet wet (no pun intended) and helps you decide whether or not scuba diving is for you.
Many dive centers offer this introductory course, which will count as one of your dives toward your Open Water Diver certification.
Follow dive procedures
Scuba diving in Miami is no different from any other diving destination concerning dive procedures.
You always want to remain close to your diving buddy.
Remember and practice the diving hand signals you learned during your introductory or certification course.
