Introduction
The state of Texas can be a camper's paradise, depending on where you go.
There are over 80 state parks in Texas, so if you're looking for beautiful scenery and things to do outdoors, you will find plenty in the Lonestar State.
In this article, I put together a list of 37 state parks in Texas with camping availability for both full hookup and more primitive campsites.
Full Hookup Campsites
These Texas state parks have full hookups with water, sewer, and electricity, so if you are planning on taking the family for a weekend camping trip in the RV, the following Texas state parks will be perfect for you.
Abilene State Park

Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $24 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Abilene State Park is a state park in Tuscola, TX. It features 530 acres near Lake Abilene.
There are 3 campsites with full hookups to water, sewer, and electricity, and there are over 40 other RV camping sites with access to electricity.

Atlanta State Park
Entrance Fees: $3 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $16 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Atlanta State Park is located in Atlanta, TX in the far northeast corner of the state, close to the Arkansas and Louisiana borders.
You can enjoy the shade of tall pine trees and the views of Wright Patman Lake in this east Texas park.
There are 14 full hookup campsites in this park and over 40 other campsites with electricity.

Bastrop State Park

Bastrop State Park is a Texas state park in Bastrop, TX which is just 32 miles east of Austin, TX.
There is hiking, swimming, biking, and fishing, and of course camping available!
Bastrop has 35 full hookup campsites and over a dozen more with electricity, so there are plenty of spaces to park your RV.

Blanco State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)

Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Blanco State Park is located on the Blanco River in Blanco, TX.
It is over 100 acres of fishing, swimming, boating, and camping.
There are 17 campsites with full hookups and another dozen campsites with electricity.

Bonham State Park
Entrance Fees: $4 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $24 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Bonham State Park northeast of Dallas is a relatively small state park, but there is plenty to do nonetheless!
You can swim, rent paddle boats and kayaks, fish, hike, and camp.
There are only two full hookup campsites at this park, but there are 12 others with access to electricity that allow RV parking.

Caddo Lake State Park
Entrance Fees: $4 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $25 daily
Hours: Open daily 8am-10pm
This Texas state park is another park located in east Texas, close to the Louisiana border.
There is diverse wildlife at Caddo Lake including alligators.
You can also fish and paddle on the 26,000 acre lake.
There are 8 full hookup campsites and over 35 more with electricity or water hookups.

Cedar Hill State Park
Entrance Fees: $7 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $30 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Cedar Hill State Park is just 10 miles southwest of Dallas, so if you're planning on visiting the third largest city in Texas and want an escape from the urban hustle, this state park is worth the short trip.
It is located on the eastern shore of Joe Pool lake, which is home to bass, crappie, and catfish if you are looking to do some fishing.
You should have no trouble finding a full hookup campsite here, as there are 147 of them and an additional 192 campsites with electricity.

Cleburne State Park

Entrance Fees: $6 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $30 daily
Hours: Open daily 7am-10pm
North of the Texas Hill Country and again southwest of Dallas, is Cleburne State Park.
Water sports, hiking, biking, and camping are all popular activities around the 116 Cedar Lake.
There are 27 full hookup campsites that also contain picnic tables.
There is also a group campsite available for rental that houses 56 people.

Daingerfield State Park
Entrance Fees: $4 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $25 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Another state park in the northeast corner of Texas is Daingerfield State Park.
Bird watching and geocaching are popular activities along with picnicking and camping.
There are cabins and a pavilion available for rental for parties.
There are 40 full hookup campsites and an additional 18 campsites with water availability.

Davis Mountains State Park
Entrance Fees: $6 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $25 daily
Hours: Open daily 24 hours
This next beautiful park will take you to the mountains of West Texas.
This park is perfect for stargazing, hiking, leisurely drives, and camping.
There is also a group picnic area available for rent.
There are 26 campsites with full hookup availability, but if you don't feel like camping, you can stay in the historic Indian Lodge motel.

Eisenhower State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $23 daily
Hours: Open daily 8am-5pm
An hour north of Dallas on Lake Texoma in Denison, TX, you'll find Eisenhower State Park.
There are several miles of hiking trails and places to swim and picnic on the shoreline.
There is also an offroad trail for ATV's or dirt bikes.

Falcon State Park
Entrance Fees: $3 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)

Falcon State Park in Falcon Heights, TX is right on the Texas-Mexico border, so if you are looking for a warm climate to escape the Winter cold, this might be the park for your next camping trip.
There is hiking, water skiing, swimming, and camping at this state park, so there is no shortage of fun things for your family to do.
There are 31 full hookup campsites at Falcon State Park and over 60 more with either electricity or water availability.

Fort Richardson State Park

Fort Richardson State Park is located northwest of Dallas in Jacksboro, TX.
This state park is a historic landmark of the Texas frontier.
There are horse trails, hiking and biking trails, and you can fish on Lake Jacksboro.
There 8 full hookup campsites here, and there are 24 others with electricity.
There is also a large group camping area that accommodates 50 people.

Goliad State Park

In southeast Texas, about 70 miles north of Corpus Christi is Goliad State Park and Historic Site.
Take yourself back through History to the Spanish colonial era by visiting the historic sites this Texas state park has to offer.
There are also plenty of other outdoor activities to do such as fishing, hiking, and biking.

Huntsville State Park
Entrance Fees: $7 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $25 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
If you want to escape the big city life, Huntsville State Park is just 65 miles north of Houston in the Sam Houston National Forest.
Enjoy the view of beautiful pine trees and the serene Lake Raven.
Lake Raven also allows for fishing, swimming, and kayaking.
There are 23 campsites with full hookups and over 120 additional campsites with electricity or water.

Kickapoo Cavern State Park
Entrance Fees: $3 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)

Hours: Open most days 8am-4:30pm
If you're looking for a completely different state park experience, Kickapoo Cavern State Park offers that and more.
There are 20 known caves in the park with guided cave tours being offered on Saturdays at 1pm.
There are 6 full hookup campsites and 6 more with water.

Lake Brownwood State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $25 daily

Lake Brownwood State Park is located northwest of Austin and southwest of San Antonio, TX.
Lake Brownwood is 7300 acres in size, and water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, and boating are all popular activities here.
There are 20 full hookup campsites and dozens more with electricity or water available.

Lake Casa Blanca State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily during peak season (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $21 daily
Hours: Open daily 7am-10pm
This Texas state park is another one right on the Texas-Mexico border on Lake Casa Blanca.
You can enjoy fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish, and there are plenty of trails for hiking and bicycling.
There is also a pavilion and group hall available for rental for large gatherings.
At Lake Casa Blanca State Park, you will find 11 full hookup campsites and 55 other campsites with electricity available.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)

Just northwest of Corpus Christi is Lake Corpus Christi State Park.
Enjoy a relaxing day at the lake with swimming, paddling, and fishing.
There are also two lighted fishing piers if you are interested in night fishing.
On land you'll find hiking and bicycling trails and diverse wildlife.
There are 26 campsites with full hookups and 16 more with electricity or water.

Lake Livingston State Park

Lake Livingston is one of the largest lakes in the state of Texas at over 83,000 acres.
Lake Livingston State Park is just a short drive from Houston, and there are endless opportunities here for hiking, swimming, fishing boating, and mountain biking.
There are 75 campsites with full hookups here and nearly 100 hundred more with electricity or water, so you have plenty of options for your next camping trip.
The Piney Shores camping sites have a lake view, so these get booked up the quickest!

Lake Tawakoni State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $24 daily
Hours: Open daily 7am-10pm
East of Dallas, TX is Lake Tawakoni State Park.
You can fish from the lakeshore or by boat, and there is even a fishing pond for kids.
Birdwatching, mountain biking, and hiking are also popular activities at this Texas state park.
There are 16 full hookup campsites and 60 more with electricity.

Lake Whitney State Park

Lake Whitney State Park is located southwest of Dallas, TX, and it is just a short drive from Waco.
There is plenty of diverse wildlife at Lake Whitney State Park as well as prize catfish you can try to catch in the lake. You can also explore hiking trails, or go geocaching.
There are 43 full hookup campsites, and nearly 100 more with water or electricity.

Lockhart State Park
Entrance Fees: $3 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $24 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Nestled nearly in between Austin and San Antonio, TX is Lockhart State Park.
This is a smaller park than some of the others with no lake access, but if you're looking for peace and quiet this might be the state park for your next camping trip.
There are waterfall views, there is even a nine-hole golf course.
You can fish in Clear Fork Creek anytime of the year.
There are 10 full hookup campsites with an additional 10 campsites with electricity.

Meridian State Park

Hours: Open daily 8am-5pm
An hour northwest of Waco, TX is Meridian State Park.
This is another relatively small state park in Texas, but it is located at the top of the beautiful Texas Hill Country.
There is a 72 acre lake for fishing, swimming, or paddling.
There are also five miles of hiking trails.
There are 8 full hookup campsites and additional campsites with electricity.
There is also a group campsite fit for a large gathering.

Mother Neff State Park

Mother Neff State Park is another Texas state park with camping that is close to Waco, TX.
To the southwest of Waco, Mother Neff State Park offers hiking, picnicking, and camping.
There is also an interactive visitor center if you are interested in this state park's history.
There are 20 full hookup campsites and an additional 15 campsites with water.

Palmetto State Park

This Texas state park inhabits tropical flora and diverse fauna.
You can swim, fish, and paddle in the flowing river.
There are also hiking and biking trails.
There are 17 full hookup campsites and an additional 19 campsites with water.

Stephen F. Austin State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)

This Texas state park west of Houston holds an important place in Texas history, as it is where some of the first Anglo-American colonies established roots in Texas.
There are five miles of hiking and bicycling trails and several historic sites to visit.
There are 38 full hookup campsites in this state park and an additional 39 sites with water.

Tyler State Park
Entrance Fees: $6 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Full Hookup Campsites: $30 daily

This state park is located in the Piney Woods in Tyler, TX.
You can swim in the lake or fish for crappie, perch, catfish, and bass.
You can also rent a boat here or bring your own.
There are 57 campsites with full hookups and another 50 with electricity or water.

Primitive Campsites
Now that I have covered the state parks in Texas with full hookup campsites, I want to mention some of the more primitive campsites.
These are where you'll want to go if all you need is a drive-up campsite where you can pitch a tent and have a nice fire.
If you're feeling particularly adventurous, the following parks also have campsites that can only be reached by hiking.
Some of them will still have picnic tables for you and your family, but none of them will have full utility hookups, so it's best to leave the RV at home for these Texas state park campsites.
Big Bend Ranch State Park

Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Primitive Campsites: $12 daily
Hours: Open daily 8am-4:30pm
You'll find Big Bend Ranch State Park in west Texas on the Texas-Mexico border.
The park is over 300,000 acres and features mountainous terrain with scenic views.
You can ride horses or a bike, and there is plenty of hiking available.
Big Bend Ranch State Park has primitive campsites with no hookups that are reachable by vehicle or by hiking, and they can be reserved here.
Colorado Bend State Park
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Primitive Campsites: $15 daily
Hours: Open daily 6am-10pm
Camp alongside the Colorado River in Bend, TX at Colorado Bend State Park.
This park is around two hours northwest of Austin and features cave tours, hiking, and the beautiful Colorado River.
There are 15 primitive drive-up campsites available and many more that can only be reached on foot.

Devils River State Natural Area
Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Primitive Campsites: $10 daily
Hours: Open Friday to Monday 8am-5pm
The Devils River is a clear, spring-fed river in southwest Texas.
For the adventurous and daring, the Devils River offers class IV rapids in certain spots.
Leave No Trace is required here, as all gear must be packed in and packed out.
Hiking is required from the parking lot to the river, so be prepared for this.
There are 8 drive-up campsites available and 2 additional sites that require hiking.

Franklin Mountains State Park

Entrance Fees: $5 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Primitive Campsites: $10 daily
Hours: Open daily 8am-5pm
Just 15 minutes from El Paso, and close to the Texas-Mexico border, is Franklin Mountains State Park.
There are over 100 miles of hiking trails for you to explore, and you can also go rock climbing.
There are 5 primitive drive-up campsites in this park, and there are 14 primitive walk-in campsites.

Hill Country State Natural Area
Entrance Fees: $6 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)
Primitive Campsites: $12 daily
Hours: Open daily 8am-5pm
This Texas state natural area used to be a ranch northwest of San Antonio.
There is plenty to do in the 5000 acres that make up this protected area including backpacking, hiking, horseback riding, and camping.
There are no drive-up campsites at the Hill Country State Natural Area, but there are plenty of primitive walk-in and hike-in campsites.

Mustang Island State Park
Entrance Fees: $10 daily (children 12 years and younger are free)

This Texas state park does have campsites with electricity available, but I still wanted to mention here in the primitive campsites list because of the unique experience it offers.
If you want something a little different, and you would rather camp on a beach than in the woods, Mustang Island State Park is the Texas state park for you.
There are 50 primitive drive-up campsites on the beach of the Gulf of Mexico.

San Angelo State Park

This Texas state park surrounds the banks of O.C. Fisher Lake, so there is plenty to do here including fishing.
On land, there are hiking and mountain biking trails available.
There are campsites with electricity available here, but I have included it on this part of the list for its 33 primitive drive-up campsites.

Sea Rim State Park

Sea Rim State Park is another Gulf Coast park with primitive beach camping available.
There is fishing, horseback riding, and paddling available in this tranquil beach atmosphere.
There are 75 primitive beach camping sites, and if you want a truly unique experience, there is even a floating primitive campsite that can only be reached by boat. The Sea Rim State Park floating campsite is located two miles from the boat ramp, so you will need to plan on a short paddle via canoe or kayak to reach it.
